LIFE GROUPS

SSM Life Groups are our version of small groups but for junior high and high school students. Being in a life group is an amazing way to get to know other students and build community with other people who want to grow closer to God. Every group has a caring adult leader and somewhere around 10 students who are all the same age range and gender. Life Groups meet weekly throughout the school year and they typically take place on Tuesday or Wednesday nights.

LIFE GROUP FAQ's

WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS FOR LIFE GROUP THIS SCHOOL YEAR?

We have two options for students this upcoming school year for Life Group. First, we are offering online small groups over Zoom that your student can participate in. Second, we are offering in-person groups that will be meeting outside in backyards, parks, and public spaces. These groups will be socially distanced and masks will be required.

IS ONE OPTION BETTER THAN THE OTHER?

Absolutely not! The only difference between the two is proximity. Both options will follow the same curriculum, have the same format, be the same size, and will be fully synonymous.

WHAT’S THE FORMAT OF LIFE GROUPS?

Life Groups are small groups for students, with 10-12 students and 2 leaders! Groups will meet on Tuesday or Wednesday nights with other students, same gender and grade. Being involved with a Life Group is an awesome way to connect with other students and grow closer to God.

IF I START IN AN ONLINE GROUP, CAN I SWITCH TO IN-PERSON LATER?

If you start with an online group but feel comfortable switching to an in person group, our team will do our best to find a group that your student can switch to when you are ready.

HOW ARE IN-PERSON GROUPS FOLLOWING GUIDELINES TO STAY SAFE?

If your student joins an in-person group, they will need to bring their own chair each week to Life Groups. Also, groups will be meeting outside, 6 feet apart, socially distanced. Every person in the group will need to be wearing a mask the whole time they are together. As restrictions change, we will work to change with them. Unfortunately, if students do not follow these guidelines, we will need to remove them from the group. Our church leadership believes these guidelines must be followed in order to keep every student and leader safe and healthy, which is our top priority.

WHO ARE THE LIFE GROUP LEADERS?

Every Life Group Leader is an adult in our church who has been interviewed, background checked by the FBI and DOJ, and trained by our pastoral staff. Life Group Leaders are an extension of our team and represent some of the best servant-leaders our church has to offer. They are looking forward to journeying with your student this upcoming year.

IF I’M NOT READY TO REGISTER FOR EITHER OPTION, CAN I SIGN UP LATER IN THE YEAR?

Yes! If your student is not ready for a Life Group, you can sign up for our waiting list which runs through May, and we will do our best to get your student plugged into a group.

I’M A PARENT WHO IS INTERESTED IN LEADING A GROUP, WHAT SHOULD I DO?

We would love for you to join our leadership team! Head to the “Leaders” page on our website and download the SSM application. Fill it out and email it to hsm@saddleback.com. We’ll get back to you shortly.
